Thorough examination: First inspection within six months

IPAF is campaigning to improve the safety of mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs).

"There is confusion about when the first inspection should take place in the UK," said Tim Whiteman, IPAF managing director. "As indicated on page 14 of the IPAF Powered Access Review 2008, new MEWPs must be inspected within the first six months."

Unlike other lifting equipment, MEWPs used in the UK to lift people must have a thorough examination performed by a competent person every six months. More information about how to meet this requirement can be found in the section about IPAF's CAP Card.
